AUGUST

August 16 – September 16, 2007
August 16, Opening night artist reception 5:00-9:00 pm

Women: Above and Below the Surface
Experience the rich surface treatments on canvas of two area painters.

Shari Weschler Rubeck describes her work as a fusion of design, abstraction, theatre, costumes and circus. Her process involves working and reworking the surface, sometimes erasing, redrawing, and repainting, often only partially obscuring pre-existing imagry, allowing for delicious exploration.

Daniel Kelley is also extremely interested in texture. His depictions of the female form can frequently be rendered in luxuriously thick layers of paint, sometimes applied by pallette knive. His simple visual themes which range from representative to the abstract, invite investigation of what lies beneath the surface.
