AUGUST
Expression of Forms, Shapes and Colors
Oil Paintings by Jóse Canencia
Gallery 17 Peck is proud to present José Canencia’s original works of oil on canvas. His paintings appear figurative at first glance, but the figures caught in motion remain as mysterious as their actions. This narrative ambiguity signals a departure from traditional representation and sets his work apart. But it is Canencia’s masterful gesture that propels his paintings into a higher realm of fine art. “The inspiration comes from the expression of forms, shapes and colors,” reveals Canencia. “I’m not especially concerned with anecdotal aspects but I do care very much about aesthetics.”

BodyScapes
Works by Photographer Tom Stio
Please join us in welcoming Tom Stio to the Gallery at 17 Peck. For almost a decade Stio has been photographing dancers and dance companies, and has become attuned to finding a mystical or metaphysical quality to the human body. By combining this quality with the inherent grace and beauty of the human figure, he creates memorable, exquisite images that capture the extraordinary magic and excitement of the figure and the dance. Director Daniel Kelley says Stio's eye for light, shadow, form and line makes his work a must see for all art lovers. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Tom Stio and experience his wonderful work.
