Artist's Statement | << back
My Tiwa culture is an articulation of prayers and gratitude, it is expressed through our way of living: in our language, songs, dances, and creation of art.
At times, my art work is a reflection of my inner prayers; while other times, it is the stories of our ancestors that inspire a new vision. I would like my sculptures to preserve a story, and educate who we are many generations from now. The bronze sculptures are made from my clay originals. Most of my pottery is in a contemporary style, made from natural clay that I collect myself.
Instilling the values of respect, compassion, and faith should be encouraged to children at a young age; it is imperative to their foundation of respect for the people, the land, and more importantly, for themselves and their existence. The most immense prayer is “thank you.”
