Biography | << back
Betty Harrington has been a painter for more than 30 years. Her body
of work also includes photography and mixed media assemblage.
In the journey towards refining her work, Betty first studied in
southern California. After moving to Rhode Island, she took classes
at RISD over a five year period, and graduated from Brown University
in 1992. It was at this point that Betty opened her first studio and
was able to work as a full time artist, and her current studio is
located in Warren, Rhode Island.
Ms. Harrington's work has been shown throughout Rhode Island as well
as Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
Her favorite approach is to paint a series so as to fully explore a
concept or image, moving from canvas to canvas searching for insight,
the "whatness" of the subject. The artist's intention is always to
find a way of bringing what she "sees" to the canvas, and making the
work true to what she wants to accomplish with each piece and the
series as a whole.
The INFIGO series reflects on some of the earliest signs and symbols
which had been scratched onto bones or painted onto cave walls by
prehistoric artists. Many of these symbolic marks have survived their
journey through time to become part of our knowledge of the past and
integrated into our common culture.
