17 Peck is excited to represent award-winning master potter Jody Naranjo (Santa Clara Pueblo). Born into one of the most incredibly prolific pottery-crafting families in New Mexico, she has earned a place of distinction among her contemporaries.
Naranjo’s artistic talent was evident even as a young girl. At the age of 15, she was selling her own pottery under the portal at The Palace of Governors on the Plaza in Santa Fe; by the time she was 19, world-class gallery owners were buying her pottery directly. With an award list several pages-long; Naranjo continues to garner more praise and recognition than any other pottery artist in her category – most notably the highly coveted “Best of the Best Award” at the Santa Fe Indian Market – the world’s premier venue for Native American arts and crafts.
Utilizing the traditional coil method – and even the polishing stones handed down from her grandmother – Naranjo continues to craft distinctively articulate statements in the clay she digs and processes herself. Though she only shows less than five times per year, her pots sell-out within minutes, keeping her works at the top of collectors’ lists world-wide.
Instantly recognizable, images of Naranjo and her pottery continue to be featured in major magazine publications, books, and news media throughout the United States: a testament to her achievements as a master potter.
