Biography | << back
CSR attended Virginia Commonwealth University in the 1980’s where he found passion in “found object” sculpture. His works are an eclectic mix of old and new, weathered and smooth, where geometric and organic objects are brought together to form various compilations of functional art. The pallet of materials used for his creations have been collected from 19 years in the millwork and construction industry. Items such as exotic woods, metals, leather and found objects are combined into artworks with a purpose. “The notion of creating a piece of art, while also serving a function other than the aesthetic, fascinates me.” Rubeck’s pieces start by assembling several different objects out of the collection in his workshop. He allows the material to steer the course of the design and final look, with very few creations originating from sketches. While working on Chill Chair 2, a broken aluminum bar opened up the way for a new direction with wood as an alternate, creating a unique look of it’s own. The artist’s work can be found in many private collections as well as commercial venues from Virginia to New York.
