Biography | << back

Almost three years ago, in 2003, my husband, daughter and I moved to North Kingstown, Rhode Island from Baltimore – pregnant with our second child. We left behind sixteen years of familiar surroundings, friends, support, clientele, creative vendors, and galleries. As a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, it was invaluable to have that resource so close at hand.

After four years of artistic pause, with the exception of drawing and painting with my children and teaching from my home based studio, I realize now how much my own imagery has been neglected. Suddenly, I am flying in my dreams again.

My work is a fusion of design, abstraction, theatre, costumes, circus and the figure – whether human, animal, or a combination of both. Each piece is a captured moment in a strange performance. The spectator is left to contemplate what expression the character or characters are wearing and why.

Communicating through art is a process of working and reworking all areas of the surface. I repaint, erase, redraw and reorganize spaces and figures, often only partially erasing old attempts. It is important that the layers of texture, color and paint hold the onlooker’s eye; allowing for delicious exploration.
